'I'm in prison': Disabled Savannahians struggle to find affordable, accessible housing


In 2020, more than half of complaints made to the National Fair Housing Alliance were made because of housing discrimination due to a disability.


Lisa Vollmer shares her painful, frustrating experience of what it is like to live with two medical conditions that make walking and mobility extremely painful. Lisa has been on a quest to find affordable housing without stairs for over two years, leaving her trapped in her second-story apartment.


"I'm just down about this. I'm tired of it. I can't go anywhere and do the things I want to do. It's just awful."
